Akash Network has introduced a new set of features for AkashChat, the decentralized AI interface running on the Akash Supercloud. These updates aim to improve usability while maintaining Akash's focus on decentralized infrastructure and open-source AI accessibility.
The headline feature is the integration of Meta’s Llama 4 Maverick, one of the most advanced open-source AI models currently available. Users can now interact with this model directly from the AkashChat interface and without even signing in, reinforcing the platform’s position as a testbed for cutting-edge, decentralized AI systems.
New Inputs and Smarter Interactions
In addition to the Llama 4 upgrade, AkashChat now supports voice input. This feature allows users to speak directly to the AI, removing the need for typed prompts and enabling a more natural interaction flow. Voice input is especially useful for developers and researchers working across environments where hands-free interaction is beneficial.
Another update - branching conversations - lets users fork new threads mid-chat without starting over. This small but important feature addresses a common workflow hurdle for those using AI in exploratory tasks like writing, research, and debugging code.
Incremental, but Meaningful
While the features may seem incremental, they reflect Akash's ongoing commitment to iterating on user feedback and supporting the diverse ways its community engages with AI tooling.
These improvements also come at a time when decentralized compute demand is rising sharply due to bottlenecks in centralized GPU access. As large-scale AI workloads increasingly seek alternatives to traditional cloud providers, enhancements to tools like AkashChat become more relevant to the broader DeAI movement.
Access and Exploration
All updates are live now at chat.akash.network, where users can try Llama 4 Maverick and test the new features in action. Akash has indicated that future iterations will continue to prioritize open-source model compatibility, decentralized infrastructure, and UI features that support meaningful developer workflows.
